PEOPLE can continue the feelings of good will,
celebration and patriotism inspired by the Olympics and Diamond Jubilee
at a Last Night Of The Proms-style event this Sunday.
Kirkby Road recreation ground in Barwell will be hosting a picnic in the park, complete with traditional favourites from the Leicestershire Co-Operative Band like Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia.
The events committee at Barwell Parish Council, who have organised the event, are hoping everyone will bring along flags and get into the spirit of the day from 2pm.
There is no charge but people are asked to bring their own picnic.
Committee chairman Councillor Mathew Hulbert (Lib
Dem, St Mary’s) said: “This is the first time we’ve held an event like
this and we hope lots of villagers, and people from further afield will
come along with their picnics and wave their flags and sing along with
these old favourites.
“If it goes well, this may become an annual event in the Barwell calendar.”
